Toronto Interlocking Contractor

Hire an interlocking contractor for installation, repair, or outdoor upgrades

Interlocking is more than choosing pavers. For a driveway, patio, walkway, or front entrance to last, the work needs proper excavation, base preparation, grading, drainage, edge restraint, compaction, and finishing. Without those details, interlock can sink, spread, shift, or hold water.

A&A Masonry helps Toronto homeowners install new interlocking surfaces and repair existing interlock that has settled, separated, become uneven, or started draining poorly. Whether you need a full outdoor upgrade or a smaller repair, we focus on the structure below the surface as much as the finished look.

Why Choose A&A Masonry

Interlocking work backed by exterior repair and masonry experience

Many interlocking problems are caused by what happens under or around the surface. Poor drainage, weak base preparation, nearby concrete damage, porch movement, retaining wall issues, or water collecting near the foundation can all affect how long the finished project lasts.

Built for Toronto Conditions

We plan interlocking installation and repair with Toronto weather in mind, including freeze-thaw movement, snow, rain, salt, and seasonal ground shifting.

Installation and Repair Options

We can help with new installs, sunken interlock repair, interlock relays, re-levelling, replacement sections, steps, patios, driveways, and walkways.

Complete Exterior Knowledge

Because we also work on masonry, concrete, porches, retaining walls, waterproofing, and repairs, we can spot related issues before they affect your hardscape.

Our Installation and Repair Process

Good interlocking work starts below the surface

The visible pavers are only part of the project. A durable interlocking surface depends on excavation, base preparation, compaction, grading, edge restraint, bedding, joint sand, and proper finishing. For repairs, we also look at why the existing area failed.

number1

Site Review

We review the existing surface, slope, access, drainage, project goals, and signs of sinking or movement.

number2

Design and Repair Plan

We plan the layout, stone type, borders, pattern, repair method, grading, and connection points.

number3

Base and Surface Prep

We prepare the base, bedding layer, edge restraints, and repaired sections so the surface can perform properly.

number4

Install, Relay, and Finish

We install or relay the interlock, finish the joints, clean the area, and review the completed work.

Built for Toronto Weather

Why proper interlocking installation matters in Toronto

Toronto’s climate is tough on outdoor surfaces. Freeze-thaw cycles, heavy rain, snow, salt, ground movement, and poor drainage can all affect driveways, patios, steps, and walkways.

A poorly prepared interlocking surface may start to sink, spread, heave, or collect water near the home. Proper installation or repair gives the surface a better chance of staying level, draining correctly, and holding up through seasonal changes.

  • Proper base preparation helps reduce sinking
  • Correct grading helps move water away from the home
  • Edge restraints help prevent spreading
  • Repairing failed sections early can stop larger surface problems

Design Options

Interlocking design options for Toronto homes

Interlocking gives homeowners flexibility in colour, pattern, texture, border style, and layout. The right design should fit the home, support how the space is used, and avoid looking disconnected from the rest of the property.

Modern Large-Format Pavers

A clean option for updated entrances, newer homes, and backyard patios with a simple modern look.

Traditional Brick-Style Patterns

A classic choice for older Toronto homes, front walkways, and driveway borders.

Contrasting Borders

Borders frame driveways, patios, and walkways while helping define edges clearly.

Front Entrance Features

Bands, landings, and step transitions can make the front of the home feel more complete.

Backyard Patio Layouts

Interlocking can create seating areas, dining zones, garden paths, and outdoor living spaces.

Natural Stone Integration

Steps, caps, borders, and retaining walls can be combined with interlocking for a more finished design.

Repair or Replace

Should you repair or replace existing interlock?

Not every interlock problem needs a full replacement. If the pavers are still in good condition and the problem is limited to a smaller area, repair or relaying may be enough. If the base has failed or water is pooling across large sections, rebuilding may be the better long-term option.

Issue
Repair May Make Sense When
Replacement May Be Better When

Sunken interlock

Only a small section has settled and the pavers are still usable.

Large areas are sinking because of poor base preparation or drainage.

Loose or separated pavers

The layout still works and the pavers can be relaid properly.

The whole surface has shifted, spread, or lost its shape.

Water pooling

The problem is limited and can be corrected with local grading adjustments.

Water drains toward the home or affects a large surface area.

Outdated design

The current layout still suits the property and only needs smaller repairs.

The space no longer works for parking, access, safety, or outdoor living.

Interlocking vs Concrete

Why many Toronto homeowners choose interlocking over plain concrete

Concrete can be practical, but interlocking gives homeowners more design flexibility and a more finished exterior look. It can also make future repairs easier because individual pavers or sections can often be lifted and reset.

For driveways, patios, walkways, and entrances, interlocking can create a stronger visual upgrade than plain concrete while still providing a durable surface for daily use.

  • More colour, texture, and pattern options
  • Better fit for custom entrances and landscaping
  • Easier section repairs than large concrete slabs
  • Strong curb appeal for front-facing surfaces
  • Works well with steps, borders, and retaining walls

Project Ideas

Popular interlocking projects for Toronto homes

Interlocking can be used for small front entrance upgrades, driveway improvements, backyard patios, and full outdoor transformations. The right project depends on how you use the space and which part of the property needs the biggest improvement.

Replace worn concrete or uneven paths with a cleaner entrance and matching steps.

Driveway and Walkway Combo

Create a unified front yard design by connecting the driveway, path, and porch area.

Outdoor upgrades should look good and feel solid underfoot

Had some steps that needed repairing plus a lot of tile interlock around the house that I ended up wanting a replacement for; A&A masonry came in with good prices compared to others and did a fantastic job. Will from the masonry team fixed up a bunch of broken stairs and did some extra tuckpointing and Tani on the interlocking crew handled the rest (well with a bunch of coworkers too of course!) We're very happy with the job.

Their _experience_ is evident the moment you call them. They'll answer questions before you have the chance to think of them. They can point you in the right direction for materials, patterns and styles. They know how and who to talk to in the municipality for permits. The installing team fully coordinates with minimal chatter, but they'll communicate with you clearly, down to preferences and details, giving hints and suggestions along the way. Every person I've interacted with in this company -- sales consultant, accounts payable, CSR, coordinator, installers -- clearly do what they do with energy, thoughtfulness and personality, no exceptions. Price is fair, and the quality of work is as expected. But the best part about this company is the way they treat you.

I contacted A&A Masonry for some interlocking and brick work at the house. Greg came by, we discussed the job, and he provided a quote and answered all the questions that I had. Bill, Thomas and Luke did a very good job repairing the interlocking at the front of the house and putting a new sod. They removed the old interlocking from the back yard and lay down new stones perfectly. A very well done job! For the brick work, Jon and Michael came and in few hours they replaced all the damage bricks with new ones paying a lot of attention to matching the color as close as possible with the remaining old bricks. A precision work and it looks very nice now. This is the third time that I get A&A Masonry to do work at my home and results are always excellent.

For many Toronto homes, interlocking offers better design flexibility, stronger curb appeal, and easier section repairs than poured concrete. Concrete may still be practical in some cases, but interlocking usually gives a more finished exterior look.

Yes. Interlocking should be kept clean, joints may need fresh sand over time, weeds should be controlled, and sunken or shifted areas should be repaired before the problem spreads.
