Toronto Brick Restoration Contractor
Restore the strength, appearance, and character of aging brickwork
Brick restoration is different from a small brick repair. Restoration looks at the whole wall or structure, including mortar condition, brick faces, water stains, colour matching, previous patchwork, movement, moisture exposure, and the original character of the masonry.
A&A Masonry helps Toronto homeowners restore brickwork that has aged, weathered, stained, cracked, or lost its original appearance. Whether the property needs repointing, selective brick replacement, brick cleaning, historic brick matching, waterproofing support, or a full masonry restoration plan, we focus on protecting both appearance and long-term performance.
Signs You Need Brick Restoration
When is brick restoration the right service?
Brick restoration is often the right choice when the issue is not limited to one or two damaged bricks. If the wall has widespread mortar failure, staining, uneven previous repairs, spalling, water damage, or aging brickwork that needs careful renewal, restoration can provide a more complete solution.
The goal is to restore the wall as a system, not simply patch one visible spot.
Common warning signs
- Crumbling or missing mortar joints
- Spalling, flaking, or weathered brick faces
- White staining, efflorescence, or moisture marks
- Discoloured, dirty, or heavily stained brickwork
- Mismatched bricks from old repairs
- Cracks, step cracking, or loose sections
- Older brickwork is losing its original character
- Water damage around walls, sills, chimneys, or foundations
Toronto Weather and Brick Restoration
Why Toronto brickwork needs careful restoration
Toronto brickwork deals with rain, snow, ice, sun, freeze-thaw cycles, and constant moisture exposure. When water gets into brick or mortar, it can freeze, expand, and slowly break down the wall.
Older Toronto homes can also have softer brick and mortar systems that need compatible repair materials. Using mortar that is too hard or sealing the wall incorrectly can trap moisture and create more damage over time.
- Repointing helps restore failing mortar joints
- Brick matching helps preserve the original appearance
- Cleaning removes stains without damaging the surface
- Moisture control helps reduce future deterioration
Why Choose A&A Masonry
Brick restoration handled with care for structure, appearance, and long-term protection
Restoration work needs more care than a basic patch. The repair must match the existing wall, respect the age of the masonry, and address the conditions that caused the damage in the first place.
Careful Masonry Assessment
We review mortar, brick condition, stains, moisture paths, previous repairs, movement, and matching needs before recommending the restoration plan.
Matching and Blending
We aim to match brick size, colour, texture, mortar style, and joint finish so restored areas blend with the existing masonry.
Complete Restoration Options
We can combine repointing, cleaning, brick replacement, crack repair, sealing guidance, and exterior wall repairs when the project needs a broader approach.

Restoration vs Repair
Do you need brick restoration or brick repair?
Brick repair and brick restoration are related, but they are not always the same service. Repair usually focuses on a specific damaged area. Restoration looks at the broader condition of the brickwork and often combines several repair and renewal methods.

Our Brick Restoration Process
A clear process for restoring aging brickwork
Brick restoration should start with a careful review of what is failing and why. The process may include cleaning, repointing, replacing damaged bricks, matching materials, and protecting the wall from future moisture problems.
Assess the Brickwork
We review mortar joints, brick faces, cracks, stains, water damage, movement, and previous repairs.
Plan the Restoration
We identify whether the project needs repointing, cleaning, brick matching, replacement, sealing guidance, or related repairs.
Complete the Work
We restore the damaged areas using repair methods suited to the wall, brick type, mortar, and project goals.
Review the Finished Wall
We review the completed restoration, cleanup, blending, and care recommendations for the restored brickwork.
Older and Heritage-Style Brickwork
Preserve the character of older Toronto brick homes
Many Toronto homes have older brickwork that needs a careful approach. Matching the brick, choosing compatible mortar, and respecting the original wall appearance can make the difference between a repair that blends and one that stands out.
For older homes and heritage-style properties, restoration should protect the wall while preserving the character that makes the building worth maintaining.
- Brick colour, size, texture, and age are considered
- Mortar strength and joint profile are matched where possible
- Cleaning methods are selected to avoid unnecessary damage
- Repaired areas are blended into the surrounding brickwork
Before and After Brick Restoration
Restoration should make brickwork cleaner, stronger, and more consistent
Before-and-after photos help show the difference between worn brickwork and properly restored masonry. The goal is not only a cleaner wall, but a wall that is better protected and more consistent with the property’s original appearance.
Before Brick Restoration
Stains, open joints, spalling, and mismatched repairs can weaken the wall and hurt curb appeal.
After Brick Restoration
Restored brickwork looks cleaner, blends better, and is better prepared to handle Toronto weather.

Resurfaced Concrete Porch & Walkway
September 8, 2022
AA did a top notch job of repairing the concrete foundations on our 1950s era home. They replaced broken bricks in multiple locations, fixed many step cracks in the mortar between blocks, and fixed the mortar between blocks as required. The excellent crew also repaired the mortar between the red bricks in multiple locations around the house. In addition they fixed cracked mortar in the window sills and replaced one damaged sill block. By luck A&A were able to assign members of three teams to the job so all was completed in one day - although they had to work late ! The team were courteous and hardworking. The quality of the work was excellent.

Concrete Foundation Repair
May 23, 2024
A&A did an excellent job replacing and repairing a 55 foot retaining wall between me and my neighbour. Removal of 25 feet of concrete block wall, replacing with concrete block, weeping tile and gravel and applying concrete coat to entire 55 feet was completed in 2 days.
Matt and Joel kept the site neat and cleaned up at the end of the job. They were polite and professional and answered any questions I had. Well Done!

Brick Restoration FAQs
Frequently asked questions about brick restoration in Toronto
What is the difference between brick restoration and brick repair?
Brick repair usually fixes a specific damaged area, such as cracked or spalling bricks. Brick restoration is a broader process that can include repointing, cleaning, brick matching, selective replacement, crack repair, and moisture protection to improve the full wall or structure.
When should I consider brick restoration?
Brick restoration may be needed when you see widespread mortar deterioration, stains, efflorescence, spalling brick, old mismatched repairs, discolouration, loose bricks, or aging masonry that needs both visual and structural renewal.
Can old Toronto brickwork be matched?
A&A Masonry aims to match replacement brick as closely as possible by considering colour, size, texture, age, and overall appearance. Older or heritage-style brick may not always be matched perfectly, but careful selection helps the repair blend better.
Does brick restoration include tuckpointing?
Yes, many brick restoration projects include tuckpointing or repointing. This involves removing deteriorated mortar and replacing it with new mortar to improve strength, appearance, and moisture resistance.
Can brick cleaning damage older brick?
It can if the wrong method is used. Older or softer brick should be cleaned carefully with methods suited to the condition of the masonry. Harsh cleaning can damage the brick face or mortar.
How often should brick restoration be done?
The timing depends on the age of the property, weather exposure, mortar condition, and previous repairs. Older brickwork should be inspected regularly so small mortar or moisture issues can be handled before they become larger restoration projects.
Can brick restoration help with water damage?
Yes. Brick restoration can help address open mortar joints, damaged brick, staining, and moisture-related wear. If there is ongoing water entry, the source should also be reviewed so the restored brickwork is better protected.
How do I request a brick restoration estimate?
You can request an estimate by contacting A&A Masonry through the website or by phone. Photos of the damaged brickwork, mortar joints, staining, or wall area can help with the first review, but some projects may need an onsite assessment.
