Chimney Repair

Look at the Chimney and Roof Junction Together

A&A Masonry provides chimney repair in Scarborough for damaged mortar, deteriorated bricks and water-entry concerns. If moisture appears near the chimney, we consider the visible masonry and roofline details before recommending the appropriate work.

Chimney Repair

A leak near a chimney is not always a brickwork problem, and a neat flashing repair does not resolve every masonry defect. The chimney and roof meet at a junction where different materials have different roles. A useful assessment considers those details together rather than treating the stain indoors as a diagnosis.

Flashing and masonry need different repairs

Flashing manages water where the chimney passes through the roof. Mortar joints, bricks and the crown form other parts of the weather-exposed structure. Open joints, cracked masonry or a defective crown can require work even if the flashing looks intact from below.

Give a clear account of the symptoms

Describe where dampness appears, what weather precedes it and whether roof or chimney work has been carried out before. If a previous caulking repair helped only temporarily, mention that too. These details help frame the inspection without proving the source on their own.

Keep the scope specific

Recommendations may include repointing, brick replacement, crown repair, cap work or flashing repair. A deteriorated section may need rebuilding, particularly where masonry is loose or moving. The proposal should distinguish those tasks and explain any further assessment needed, rather than offer an undefined chimney seal.

Our Toronto and GTA chimney service page explains the repair range. Read more about flashing problems and repair considerations.

Should I book roofing or chimney work first?

Explain the location and history of the problem when requesting a consultation. The appropriate scope depends on whether the issue involves masonry, the roof junction or both; do not assume one trade detail is responsible based only on an interior stain.

Does caulking count as a complete repair?

Not necessarily. Sealant may have a role in a properly specified detail, but repeated surface application should not substitute for addressing defective masonry or flashing.
