Toronto Chimney Repair Contractor
Repair chimney damage before water and winter make it worse
A chimney sits above the roofline, so it takes direct exposure from rain, snow, ice, wind, sunlight, and freeze-thaw cycles. Once mortar starts failing or brick begins to spall, water can move deeper into the masonry and create more serious damage.
A&A Masonry helps Toronto homeowners repair chimney problems early, rebuild unsafe chimneys when needed, and protect the structure from future moisture damage. We look at the brick, mortar joints, crown, cap, flashing, flue area, and surrounding roofline before recommending the right repair.
Water Entry and Chimney Leaks
Chimney Leak Repair Toronto
Chimney leaks can come from more than one source. In many Toronto homes, water can enter through cracked chimney crowns, open mortar joints, damaged brick, failed flashing, missing chimney caps, loose masonry, or gaps where the chimney meets the roofline.
A&A Masonry reviews the chimney brickwork, mortar joints, crown, cap, flashing area, flue opening, and visible water entry points before recommending the right repair. Depending on the condition of the chimney, the solution may include tuckpointing, brick replacement, crown repair, cap installation, flashing repair, waterproofing, or a partial chimney rebuild.

Toronto Chimney Repair Services
Chimney Repair for Brick, Mortar, Crowns, Caps and Rebuilds
The right repair depends on the cause and extent of the damage. The services below cover brick and mortar repairs, crowns, caps, flashing, leaks and rebuilding. We assess the visible condition before recommending a scope, so a localised problem is not automatically treated as a full rebuild.
Signs You Need Chimney Repair
When should you call a chimney repair contractor?
Chimney damage is easy to miss from the ground until it becomes obvious. If you see crumbling mortar, loose brick, water around the fireplace, staining near the chimney, or visible cracks, it is worth getting the chimney checked before the damage spreads.
Some problems can be handled with targeted masonry repair. Others may need rebuilding if the chimney is unstable, badly deteriorated, or repeatedly leaking.
Common warning signs
- Cracked, loose, or missing bricks
- Spalling brick or flaking chimney surfaces
- Missing, cracked, or crumbling mortar joints
- Water stains near the fireplace or chimney breast
- Damaged chimney crown or missing chimney cap
- Leaking or loose chimney flashing
- Leaning, separating, or visibly unstable chimney masonry
- White staining, rust, damp smells, or repeated water entry
Why Choose A&A Masonry
Chimney masonry repair built around safety, water control, and long-term durability
A chimney repair should solve more than the visible damage. The work should address why the chimney is failing, where water is entering, and whether the structure is still stable enough for repair rather than rebuilding.
Chimney Damage Assessment
We review the chimney brickwork, mortar joints, crown, cap, flashing, water entry points, and structural condition before recommending repairs.
Repair and Rebuild Options
We can handle targeted chimney masonry repairs, tuckpointing, crown work, flashing repairs, cap installation, and full chimney rebuilding when needed.
Toronto Weather Experience

Repair or Rebuild
Do you need chimney repair or a chimney rebuild?
Not every damaged chimney needs to be rebuilt. Many chimneys can be repaired with tuckpointing, brick replacement, crown repair, cap installation, or flashing work. But if the chimney is unstable, badly deteriorated, or failing throughout, rebuilding may be safer and more cost-effective over time.

Condition
|
Repair May Make Sense When
|
Rebuilding May Be Better When
|
|---|---|---|
|
Mortar deterioration |
Mortar damage is limited and the bricks are mostly stable. |
Mortar has failed throughout much of the chimney and the structure is loose. |
|
Brick damage |
Only some bricks are cracked, spalling, or missing faces. |
Large sections of brick are loose, crumbling, or separating. |
|
Water leaks |
The leak is tied to a crown, cap, flashing, or local mortar issue. |
The chimney has repeated leaks from widespread masonry failure. |
|
Structural movement |
The chimney is generally stable and damage is local. |
The chimney is leaning, separating from the house, or visibly unstable. |
Chimney repair often overlaps with other exterior masonry work. If the damage extends beyond the chimney, A&A Masonry may also review related brick repair, tuckpointing, exterior wall repointing, waterproofing, or roofline repair concerns before recommending the best repair plan.
Toronto Weather and Chimney Damage
Why Toronto chimneys fail over time
Toronto chimneys face rain, snow, ice, wind, sun, road salt exposure, and freeze-thaw cycles. When moisture enters brick or mortar and then freezes, it can expand and break down the masonry from the inside.
That is why chimney damage should not be ignored. Small cracks, open joints, missing caps, and crown damage can turn into spalling brick, leaks, loose masonry, and larger rebuild costs.
- Freeze-thaw cycles can widen cracks and mortar gaps
- Damaged crowns allow water into the chimney body
- Missing caps can let rain, debris, and animals enter
- Failed flashing can cause roofline and interior leaks

We have hired A&A to do two different jobs now and the experience both times has been excellent. We had them remove and replace our parging, and then we had them remove and rebuild our chimney.
They are very quick to respond, they go into great detail about how they will complete the project, their work is fast and very thorough, and they are overall just very friendly, professional, and very skilled. We strongly recommend them and would definitely hire them again for future masonry work.

Parging and Chimney Repair

Nigel responded quickly to my request to have my chimney inspected following a water leak around my fireplace. Following an inspection, repair of my chimney was promptly scheduled. Eduardo and his team arrived and worked hard for several days to repair my chimney and also discovered and repaired several cracks in between the brickwork around my home.
Eduardo and his team were hard working, friendly and very approachable. He kept me informed through the whole process and made sure to get my approval before any work was completed. They also did a great cleanup job once the work was completed. I would highly recommend A&A Masonry. Thanks so much!

Chimney Repair FAQs
Frequently asked questions about chimney repair in Toronto
How do I know if my chimney needs repair?
Common signs include cracked or missing bricks, crumbling mortar, spalling brick, water stains near the fireplace, a damaged crown, missing cap, failed flashing, or a chimney that appears to be leaning or separating.
Do I need chimney repair or chimney rebuilding?
Repair may be enough when damage is local and the chimney is still stable. Rebuilding may be needed when the chimney is badly deteriorated, loose, leaning, repeatedly leaking, or failing across large sections.
Can you repair chimney leaks?
Yes. Chimney leaks can come from cracked crowns, open mortar joints, damaged brick, failed flashing, missing chimney caps, or other water entry points. A&A Masonry can assess the source and recommend the right repair.
What causes chimney brick to spall?
Spalling often happens when moisture enters brick and freezes. The freeze-thaw cycle can cause the brick face to flake, crack, or break apart, especially when mortar joints, crowns, or caps are already damaged.
How long does chimney repair usually take?
The timeline depends on the damage and repair type. Smaller mortar, cap, crown, or brick repairs may be completed quickly, while chimney rebuilding or larger restoration projects can take several days.
Can you match the brick and mortar on my existing chimney?
A&A Masonry aims to match replacement brick and mortar as closely as possible. Older materials can be difficult to match perfectly, but the goal is a clean repair that blends with the existing chimney and home exterior.
Should I repair my chimney before winter?
Yes, if there are signs of cracks, open joints, crown damage, or water entry. Repairing the chimney before winter can help reduce freeze-thaw damage and prevent small problems from becoming larger repairs.
Do you repair chimney flashing?
Yes. Failed flashing can allow water to enter where the chimney meets the roof. A&A Masonry can assess chimney flashing problems and related roofline water entry concerns.
How do I request a chimney repair consultation?
Request a chimney repair consultation or call 416-236-8721. Include your property location, the problem you have noticed and photographs taken safely from ground level. Tell us when a leak occurs and whether repairs have been attempted before. An onsite assessment may be needed to confirm the repair scope. Do not climb onto the roof to obtain photographs.
What affects chimney repair cost in Toronto?
The scope of the damage, chimney height, roof access, required scaffolding or access equipment, and the amount of brick, mortar, crown or flashing work all affect the proposal. A local repair is a different scope from rebuilding a substantial section. Matching older materials and arranging safe access can also affect the work. Request an assessment and a written scope rather than comparing prices without knowing what each proposal includes.
What should a chimney repair proposal include?
Ask for the areas to be repaired, the proposed method and materials, and how the work addresses the identified problem. Confirm access arrangements, protection of the roof and surrounding property, debris removal, scheduling, exclusions and any applicable written warranty terms. Ask how unexpected deterioration would be handled and approved before additional work begins.
How should I prepare for a chimney repair consultation?
Share photographs taken safely from the ground, any interior water staining, the timing of leaks and details of previous repairs. Explain access restrictions such as narrow side yards, shared driveways or limited parking. If the chimney serves a fireplace or appliance, tell the assessor how it is used. Visible masonry condition alone does not confirm that a flue or appliance is safe to use; ask whether a separate qualified inspection is needed.
